Headed to New York City for Sarah's 16th birthday in March
The last time Jason and I went to NYC, it was February of 2001, so a lot has changed...now it's time to take Sarah as a special 16th Birthday treat!
The origins of this trip to New York City goes back almost 10 years now. When Sarah was younger (around 5), she used to always talk about how when she was old enough she wanted to go to the Central Park Zoo and see Marty, Alex, Gloria and Melman (characters from "Madagascar" who "lived" there) and while of course she now knows that they aren't really there, we knew we wanted to take her there when she turned 16 for a Sweet Sixteen birthday trip and family vacation. We are also taking her best friend, Amy, with us as she has never been to NYC before either and seeing that Sarah is an only child, we thought that she would want to have a friend with her to make the trip a bit more fun.
That being said, what my husband and I did/saw when we were in our 30's without a child in NYC is different than what we would do with teen girls in this Instagram era. I just wanted to share with you some the things I have planned and get your thoughts, so feel free to email me with your comments and suggestions to me at email@example.com
We are staying in Midtown Manhattan with a suite at the Warwick on W. 54th Street. I chose the Warwick, as we have stayed with them a couple of times in Seattle and the prices were reasonable and the location really could not be beat. For 4 nights with advance purchase for a City View Premier Double Suite, it was not unreasonable in price and comparable to other hotels in the area.

So far, on our things to do list, we have:
Central Park Zoo
Horse Drawn Carriage around Central Park
Empire State building after dinner at Beauty & Essex
Staten Island Ferry
Times Square once during the day, once at night
Sarah loves Good Morning America so I am going to try to get tickets for the audience
American Museum of Natural History
Shopping (ie: Tiffanys)
Plaza Food Court
NBC Studio Tour
Top of the Rock (in daytime)
and lastly, I'm still waiting for Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon tickets to be released and would love to get those
We are only going to be there from Wed. through Sunday morning, so there is only so much we can cram in, but if you were 16, would this work for you and keep you entertained? The Museum of Natural History is a must do for us as we will be totally embracing our nerd side and I know we could literally spend all day there!
I already have some good restaurant recommendations for Pizza, Chinese, Dim Sum, etc...but I'm always up for more suggestions!
So what do you think? Would you like a trip like this if you were 16?
