Get Crabs at Tracy's King Crab Shack in Juneau!

I think it's actually a requirement that if you go to Alaska, you have to have one of four different foods: King Crab, Snow Crab, Dungeness Crab or Salmon.

We wanted the big, bad mama jamma....King Crab and we found it at Tracy's!

Now if you are into eating crabs, you know it can be a super messy experience. This is NOT fancy dining. This is use you hands, no fancy plates or cutlery kind of eating.

And that is completely perfect in my eyes. Eating King Crab instantly turns my family into drooling zombies like when Homer Simpson begins to think of his favorite food: "Mmmmmm....Crab."

Yes, eating crab is messy.

Yes, eating crab is not dignified.

Yes, you may even look like a condemned prisoner as you crack open those claws and dig for meat like it was the only food left on the planet. But it is sooooooo worth it. So when one of the ladies I was talking with at the martini bar on the ship mentioned it was one place she went to EVERY time she cruised to Alaska, and she had been on like 10 different cruises that went to Juneau, I figured I could trust her opinion! After all people that love crab, love crab. You're not going to go back to the same place 10 times if they sell crappy food, right?

After a morning of playing with sled dog puppies in the woods, cocktails at the Red Dog Saloon and shopping in downtown Juneau, we were hungry and and built up an appetite for these delicious crustaceans. King Crab is my favorite. It's not as much work to get the meat out like it is with what you have to go through with the small blue crabs we have here in Florida. King Krabs are great for people like me and Sarah who are ll about the instant gratification.

Get in me belly!!!

We ordered two of the Crab Shack Combos and split them between the 3 of us. I know you might be thinking that $87 is a bit much for lunch for 3 people, but holy schnikey, their crab bisque was phenomenal, the crab cakes were so yummy dipped in the bisque and those 2 crab legs were huge! They don't have an extensive menu and that works. They focus on what they know and they do offer other Alaskan seafood, but it is evident that the crab is where it is at. We can't wait to go back next year....it was the type of meal you remember for years afterwards. Delicious! I wonder if I could bring a king crab roll back on the ship with me, Hmmmm?

Since we were then in May of 2016, they have opened another location in downtown Juneau. We had gone to the original dockside location that was much smaller and I look forward to going to the new location as well!

About the Joy Family

We're not a normal family. In fact, we're downright goofy, with just a touch of nerdy (well, maybe a lot of nerdy at times)...but we're fun, we care very much for one another and we LOVE to travel.
